May 2025Philipp and Joao gave talks at Mathematics of Neuroscience and AI in Split. Kaleab presented a poster.
People
I have the privilege (and responsibility!) to supervise a group of brilliant trainees. Here is the team working in my group, exploring the neural mechanisms of cognition.
Joao Barbosa
Group Leader
Principal Investigator (INSERM) at the Neuromodulation Institute and NeuroSpin, Paris.
Co-supervised with Albert Compte Melanie is an engineer and she will graduate soon. She has been working on data-analysis and modeling of working memory, in particular how the two prefrontal cortices interact with each other during working memory tasks. Monkey data comes from Matthew Smith lab.
Lubna, in the first year of her PhD thesis, studied Physics and Science Communication. She is analysing and modelling behavioral and neural data collected from monkeys and humans, including patients, while they perform context-dependent decision making tasks. She collects human data. Monkey data comes from Earl Miller lab.
Co-supervised with Nikolas Karalis Kaleab studied Computer Science and Machine learning. He is working in data-driven RNN models of neuromodulators. Data comes from Nikolas Karalis lab.
Clara studied Cognitive Sciences. She is working on the geometry of working memory using E-phys decoding techniques.

Arghavan Aslani
Master Student
Arghavan studied Electrical Engineering and Cognitive Sciences. She is working on distributed mechanisms of working memory using eye tracker and E-phys decoding techniques.
